A Stronger Northern Voice: CAMA and LGANT Partner to Support Local Government
The Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Local Government Administrators of the NWT (LGANT) that expands CAMA membership access for local governments across the Northwest Territories.
Through this partnership, LGANT will cover the first-year CAMA membership fees for LGANT members who were not previously part of CAMA, reinforcing its commitment to supporting professional growth, collaboration, and leadership development for senior local government administrators across the Territory. As a result of this partnership, CAMA is pleased to welcome 43 new members from the Northwest Territories into its national community.
The Northwest Territories is home to 33 communities, ranging from the capital city of Yellowknife to smaller and remote communities, each contributing to the social, cultural, and economic vitality of the region. LGANT represents senior administrators from community governments across the Northwest Territories, including municipal and Indigenous community governments, ensuring broad access to professional development, peer networks, and leadership resources.
“This partnership exemplifies the collaboration and shared purpose that CAMA champions,” said Melanie Murphy, Executive Director of LGANT. “We’re pleased to ensure LGANT members have access to national learning opportunities and leadership tools that support strong local governance.” Fred Behrens, President of LGANT, added: “By bringing our members into CAMA, we are strengthening the collective capacity of local government leadership across the Northwest Territories and reinforcing our commitment to strong communities.”
“This partnership reflects CAMA’s commitment to ensuring that municipal administrators, regardless of geography, have equitable access to professional development, trusted resources, and a strong national community of peers,” said Brenda Orchard, President of CAMA and CAO of the County of Lennox & Addington, Ontario. “Strong local government leadership in the North strengthens the profession across Canada.”
“As CAMA’s Representative for the North, representing the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut, I’m incredibly proud of this collaboration,” said Tracy Thomas. “Local government administrators across the Northwest Territories now have enhanced opportunities for connection, learning, and national engagement.”
CAMA celebrates this important step toward ensuring that local government administrators across the Northwest Territories are supported, connected, and represented through a strong national network.
