The Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund (the Ship Fund) has a mandate to compensate victims of oil pollution damage (including preventive measures costs) caused by any ship or boat in Canadian waters. The Fund for Railway Accidents Involving Designated Goods (the Rail Fund) compensates victims of damages caused by a major crude-by-rail accident, after railway companies have paid damages up to the amount required by law.
