Dolter started his working career in the Army as a Logistics Finance Officer with the Canadian Forces. As he progressed through his 21-year military career he worked throughout Canada and internationally on peacekeeping operations. As the Comptroller at Canadian Forces Base Kingston, he was responsible for the financial operations of the Base of more than five thousand people.
Upon retirement from the Canadian Forces in 2005 he became Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for his hometown, the City of Corner Brook, NL. He worked for the City until 2014, moving to Truro, NS to take up the reins as the Town’s CAO. As a CPA CMA, with over 14 years as a CAO, his focus is on strengthening community financial performance to better face the significant fiscal challenges that are today’s reality.
Dolter is a graduate of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Bachelor of Commerce Co-op Program. He obtained his Certified Management Accounting designation in 2001 and completed his Masters of Business Administration at the Royal Military College of Canada in 2003, receiving the Logistic Branch Medal for Academic Excellence.
Currently, Dolter is the Past President of the Nova Scotia Association of Municipal Administrators. He is also a Director for the Property Valuation Service Corporation of Nova Scotia. As part of his Board responsibilities he chairs the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee for the Corporation.
Dolter has been married for 35 years to his wife Bev. They have two children who also live and work in Truro. Bev and Mike are grandparents to two wonderful granddaughters. Mike leads an active lifestyle focused on personal fitness, mountain biking, hiking, alpine skiing, snow shoeing, and a terrible game of golf. He also enjoys building furniture and other woodworking pursuits. He has a great love of music and enjoys collecting vintage vinyl and going to concerts whenever possible.
