Describe CAMA’s Role in Workplace Learning

We have been working on municipal learning and literacy projects since 1993. After an initial national dialogue between municipal governments and educational partners, CAMA launched pilot projects in the following five Canadian cities in 1996:

  1. Bathurst, New Brunswick
  2. Edmonton, Alberta
  3. Moncton, New Brunswick
  4. Port Moody, British Columbia
  5. St. John’s, Newfoundland.

How have we grown from five pilot projects to 200 initiatives?

To date, about 200 municipalities across Canada have been involved in planning, assessing, and providing new learning opportunities for municipal employees. Flexibility, responsiveness, and a commitment to personal development continue to be key elements contributing to the success and sustainability of CAMA’s workplace learning. We invite you to learn from the success of others.

How does collaboration work?

By working together you multiply the success of workplace learning projects. To sustain workplace learning, CAMA has collaborated with

Since 1994, CAMA has worked closely with the national office of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). These joint efforts have produced successful national and regional seminars, training workshops, government consultations, electronic discussions on workplace learning topics, and the promotion of clear language in municipal and union communications. The National Literacy Secretariat (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada) has provided ongoing funding.
